Everyday Work with Gemini

Learn three practical ways to use Gemini in everyday work, drafting and revising content, analyzing your own materials, and working across Gemini and Google Workspace.

There is a difference between knowing what Gemini can do and using it consistently in your daily work. Closing that gap depends less on discovering more features and more on developing a small number of practical workflows that you can repeat with confidence.

This workshop focuses on three workflow areas: drafting and revising content, reading and analyzing your own materials, and moving work between Gemini and Google Workspace.

The workshop also addresses an important difference in how people access Gemini. Some participants can use Gemini directly within Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive. Others use the standalone Gemini app without those embedded Workspace features because of their organization’s Google Workspace edition, administrator settings, or account configuration.

Both access paths can support many of the same professional outcomes, but the available context, features, and steps may differ. At the beginning of the session, participants will identify which access path they have and learn how to complete the workshop workflows using the tools available to them.

This is the second workshop in the Gemini track. It follows Using Google Gemini and prepares participants for Building Reliable Gems & Repeatable Workflows.

Participants will learn to:

  • Create and refine drafts that reflect their own voice rather than sounding generic
  • Build reusable templates for recurring messages and documents instead of starting over each time
  • Summarize a long document and verify the summary against the original source
  • Extract useful information and structure from tables, lists, and semi-structured content
  • Identify whether they have Gemini embedded in Google Workspace or access through the standalone Gemini app
  • Move work between Gemini and Google Workspace using the most effective method available through their account

Topic Outline

One Session In Three Parts

Three hours · hands-on throughout

Part 01Drafting

Draft and Revise

  • Understand how prompting differs for brainstorming, drafting, and editing
  • Turn rough ideas and source material into a useful first draft rather than generic filler
  • Adjust tone, length, and audience while preserving your own voice
  • Create reusable templates for recurring emails and other communications
  • Follow a practical sequence from initial draft to review-ready work
Part 02Reading

Read, Extract, and Analyze

  • Upload documents to Gemini and ask focused questions about their content
  • Summarize long documents and verify key points against the original source
  • Extract useful structure from tables, lists, and other semi-structured material
  • Use Gemini to analyze spreadsheet data, explain or create formulas, and clean inconsistent information
  • Choose the right way to provide source material, whether by uploading a file, attaching content, or connecting an available Workspace source
  • Recognize when a large collection of documents is better suited to NotebookLM or a more structured research workflow
Part 03Integration

Move Work Between Gemini and Google Workspace

  • Identify whether you have Gemini embedded in Google Workspace, access through the standalone Gemini app, or both
  • Use Gemini within Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive when embedded features are available
  • Move work through Connected Apps, Google Drive files, uploads, and exports when using the standalone Gemini app
  • Move content manually with deliberate copy and paste when direct connections or embedded features are unavailable
