Copilot in Word & PowerPoint

Draft from your own sources, refine the work without losing your voice, and turn a finished document into a presentation that is ready to use.

Copilot can produce a plausible first draft quickly. The speed is not the point. The value is in what you do next, pulling in the source documents that make the draft specific to your organization, rewriting a section that is close but wrong, and reshaping the whole thing for a different reader without starting over.

This workshop focuses on that critical middle stage of the drafting process, where most of the judgment and much of the time still resides. Participants will learn how to use Copilot in Word and PowerPoint to develop more specific, polished, and audience-appropriate documents and presentations.

We recommend this workshop for anyone who produces proposals, reports, briefs, presentations, or other professional deliverables and wants to shorten the drafting cycle without making the finished work feel generic.

Participants will need access to Microsoft 365 Copilot in both Word and PowerPoint. Bring two or three relevant source files, one real deliverable you need to produce, and your organization’s PowerPoint template, if available.

This session builds directly on Microsoft Copilot Fundamentals.

Participants will learn to:

  • create drafts from your own source material rather than Copilot's generic assumptions
  • Revise at the right scale, whether changing a sentence, reworking a section, or restructuring an entire document
  • Preserve organization's language through successive revisions
  • Turn a completed document into a working presentation and identify what requires manual refinement
  • Work effectively with an organization’s PowerPoint template and recognize when the template itself is limiting the result
  • Evaluate whether a Copilot draft is worth improving or should be abandoned and rebuilt

Topic Outline

One Session In Four Parts

Three hours · hands-on throughout

Part 01Draft

Starting From Something, Not Nothing

  • Discover how the quality of a draft changes when Copilot is grounded in relevant source files
  • Define the audience, purpose, and length before Copilot begins writing
  • Work from an outline you control rather than one Copilot creates for you
  • Produce the first draft of a real deliverable using your own source material
Part 02Revise

Rewriting Without Losing Yourself

  • Revise at the right level: a sentence, a section, or the full document
  • Adjust tone, length, and reading level without starting over
  • Feed Copilot examples of your own writing as reference for how it should sound
  • Fix a draft that is close but not quite right, and check the result against the source
Part 03Transform

From Document to Presentation

  • Turn a finished Word document into a PowerPoint presentation and identify what does not transfer cleanly
  • Use organizational templates and brand assets effectively, and understand why sparse templates often produce generic slides
  • Adapt a presentation for a different audience, purpose, or time limit
  • Convert the draft from Part 01 into a working presentation, then refine the structure, visuals, and transitions
Part 04Finish

The Last Ten Percent

  • Adjust the tone, structure, and format of the same material for different audiences and purposes
  • Verify claims, quotations, and numbers against the original source material
  • Identify where manual judgment is still needed, from visual design and emphasis to language that sounds generic or artificial
  • Bring a document or presentation to a standard that is ready to send, present, or publish
