Everyday Work with ChatGPT

Build practical habits for drafting, analyzing documents and data, and keeping ongoing work organized in Projects.

There is a difference between knowing what ChatGPT can do and using it consistently in daily work. Closing that gap depends less on discovering more features and more on developing a small number of practical skills that can be repeated with confidence.

This workshop focuses on three areas of everyday work: drafting and revising content, reading and analyzing documents and data, and organizing recurring or long-running work in Projects. Participants will practice each area using real tasks and materials rather than simply watching demonstrations.

The session also helps participants decide where different kinds of work belong. A quick request may need only a new chat. A recurring or evolving effort may belong in a Project with its own files and instructions. A complex research question may require deep research, while a stable task intended for repeated use by others may eventually justify a custom GPT.

Participants will need access to ChatGPT with file uploads and Projects. A paid plan is recommended so participants can follow the file and research exercises. Available models, tools, and usage limits may vary by plan and workspace configuration.

This is the second workshop in the ChatGPT series. It follows Using ChatGPT and prepares participants for Building Reliable Custom GPTs & Repeatable Workflows.

Participants will learn to:

  • Create and refine drafts that reflect their own voice rather than sounding generic
  • Build reusable instructions and templates for recurring communications and documents
  • Summarize, compare, and extract information from source documents while checking the result against the originals
  • Analyze spreadsheet data, create useful tables and charts, and review the calculations and assumptions behind the findings
  • Organize files, instructions, conversations, and recurring work within a ChatGPT Project
  • Decide whether a task belongs in a new chat, an existing Project, deep research, or a custom GPT

Topic Outline

One Session In Three Parts

Three hours · hands-on throughout

Part 01Drafting

Draft and Revise

  • Understand how prompting differs for brainstorming, drafting, and editing
  • Turn rough ideas and source material into a useful first draft rather than generic filler
  • Adjust tone, length, structure, and audience while preserving your own voice
  • Create reusable instructions and templates for recurring emails, reports, and other communications
  • Revise at the right level, whether changing a sentence, reworking a section, or restructuring the full document
  • Follow a practical sequence from initial draft to review-ready work
Part 02Analysis

Read, Extract, and Analyze

  • Upload documents and ask focused questions about their content
  • Summarize and compare multiple documents while verifying important claims against the original sources
  • Extract useful structure from tables, lists, forms, and other semi-structured material
  • Use ChatGPT to analyze spreadsheet data and identify trends, outliers, and relationships
  • Create tables, charts, and summaries that accurately reflect the underlying data
  • Review the calculations, methods, assumptions, and code behind an analysis before relying on its findings
Part 03Projects

Keep Ongoing Work Together

  • Create a Project for a recurring or long-running piece of work
  • Bring relevant chats, files, and project-specific instructions into one organized workspace
  • Define the tone, working method, and boundaries ChatGPT should follow within the Project
  • Use the Project's accumulated context without allowing outdated or irrelevant material to take over
  • Build one repeatable workflow for a real deliverable within the Project
  • Recognize when a task should remain in a Project and when it should become a custom GPT
