Microsoft Copilot Fundamentals

Which Copilot you have changes everything: what it can see, which protections apply, and which features appear at all, and all of that depends on the account you sign in with. You will learn to identify which Copilot you are actually using, and build a prompt method that holds up across every one of them.

We recommend this class if Copilot has recently arrived in your organization and you want to get past the demo. It assumes no technical background and no prior AI experience.

For this workshop, you will need a work or school Microsoft account with Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat. Licensed Microsoft 365 Copilot is recommended so you can complete every hands-on exercise.

This is the foundation of the Copilot series, and Prompting & Grounding Microsoft Copilot, Copilot in Word & PowerPoint, Copilot in Excel, and Your First Copilot Agent all build on it.

Participants will learn to:

• Distinguish licensed Microsoft 365 Copilot, Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat for work and education, and consumer Microsoft Copilot
• Choose among work grounding, web grounding, and explicitly referenced content for a given task
• Apply a durable prompt method: goal, context, source, output, and constraints
• Work confidently in Outlook and Teams, and understand how transcript settings and organizer policy affect what you get
• Check output against its source before it leaves your hands
