Your First Copilot Agent

A Copilot agent combines persistent instructions, carefully scoped knowledge, and, where appropriate, actions into a reusable tool that others can use consistently. Instead of entering the same prompt repeatedly, you can define how the agent should work, connect it to the documents it should use, and make it available to the people who need it.

In this workshop, participants will turn a recurring, narrowly defined task into a working no-code agent. They will define its purpose and boundaries, write durable instructions, ground it in a small set of trusted source documents, and test it against realistic questions.

We recommend this workshop for participants who already have prompts or workflows they use repeatedly and are ready to make that work available to others. No development experience is required

Participants will need permission to create and share an agent within their Microsoft 365 environment using the tools approved by their organization. Bring one recurring, narrowly scoped task and a small, stable set of source documents that support it.

This workshop builds directly on Prompting & Grounding Microsoft Copilot.

Participants will learn to:

• Distinguish between a saved prompt, a Microsoft-built agent, a custom agent, and a workflow or automation platform
• Choose the appropriate no-code authoring tool and recognize when a task requires Copilot Studio or custom development
• Write durable instructions that guide the agent consistently across a wide range of questions
• Limit an agent’s knowledge to the approved documents and sources that should inform its responses
• Test the agent for accuracy, access control, conflicting sources, and outdated content
• Share the agent with a small group, gather feedback, and maintain it as its instructions and source material change
